Located in Egypt on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula is a wonderful city called Sharm el-Sheikh, the City of Peace. Sharm el-Sheikh has a population of roughly 35,000 people. The city received its nickname of the City of Peace due to the large amount of international peace conferences that have been held in its midst. Sharm el-Sheikh is located on a promontory on the Straits of Tiran, near the mouth of the Gulf of Aqaba. The city is growing, however, and should be nearly 16 square miles by 2017.
Because Sharm el-Sheikh is on the northern tip of Africa, its temperatures don’t really drop anywhere near freezing, but tend to get very hot. In the summertime the temperatures range from around 70 to 113 Fahrenheit, and in the winter from 59 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit. This makes it a perfect spot for people who have a love for the desert heat. Being right next to the Red Sea makes it a veritable hot spot for beachgoers. However, Sharm el-Sheikh is not a rainy area; it has been recorded to only get about 5 millimetres of rain a year.
There is a great deal of fun and adventure to be had in Sharm el-Sheikh, whoever. Due to its proximity to the Red Sea the city has the opportunity to provide tourists with yacht rides in the Sharem-al-Maya bay. The waters of the Red Sea are normally calm throughout the year and make it an excellent place for scuba diving, snorkelling, and many other water sports. The abundance of coral reefs and marine life give chances for those interested in underwater photography to make some great memories. There are around 250 separate coral reefs in the Red Sea and around 1000 different species of fish. The aquatic life in Sharm el-Sheikh is definitely a one-stop spot for many different types of people.
Tourism has been a great boon to the city of Sharm el-Sheikh as it has helped to raise the amount of resorts in the country from just a few to nearly 100 in the period of 18 years. There is a wonderful aqua park resort that was established in 2007 that draw the attention of thousands of patrons a year. For people who want to see some of the familiarity of home will be happy to know that popular businesses such as Starbucks, McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Hard Rock Café are able to be found while on Sharm el-Sheikh holidays.
